Dealing With Bullying Growing UpFor a while growing up in middle school, I bullied a kid who lived down the street from me named James. Nearly every day, I’d say to him, “Can I beat you up?”
One day, he had enough and started hitting me. I walked home crying and when my mom saw me, she asked what happened. I said behind tears, “James beat me up.” She dragged me over to his house. When we got there, James said, “Look, he bullies me every day saying, ‘Can I beat you up?’ I just got sick of it and retaliated.” I felt like an idiot. After that, I never picked on him again. In fact, I tried never to pick on anyone else again. I learned to try to stay humble and treat people the way I wanted to be treated. This was when I was dealing with bullying growing up. |
