The Major Difference Between My Schools In 8th Grade

10/11/2015

Going into eighth grade, again, I attended Moorestown Friends School, a Quaker school nearby.  This school let me repeat the year and provided me with another option if I didn’t want to attend Shawnee.  However, on my first day, it was a culture shock once again.  If I thought going into a primarily African-American school in Winslow was a change, this was the complete opposite.

The first thing I noticed were all the bags laying along the hallway.  I asked a person next to me, “What are all these bags doing here?”

He said, “Oh you can just leave your bag here, nobody will take it.”

I thought, What??!!  You can leave your bag in the hallway, walk away for an hour and it won’t get stolen??  Where am I??

Since this school was extremely expensive, even for a year, my eighth grade class had only fifty students in it.  Our basketball team wasn’t that great, but this was my time to shine.  Everybody knew everybody since the school was so small, and I got the reputation for being a star athlete before I even played a game.
